Hemp seed tofu

This is our favorite calorie booster to add on salad. As we grow plenty of greens during warm season adding something more nutritional is always relevant.

We can share how to make “hempfu” easily at home.

Ready to make some hemp seed tofu? It’s surprisingly easy, and you don’t need any fancy coagulants because hemp seeds have their own natural magic!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • One cup of hulled hemp seeds
  • Water
  • A blender
  • A pot
  • Cheesecloth
  • A tofu press (or a stack of books in a pinch)

Let’s get started!

  1. Blend it up: Combine the hemp seeds and an equal amount of water in your blender. Blend until you have a smooth, creamy mixture.
  2. Gentle simmer: Pour the mixture into a pot and gently heat it over medium heat, stirring constantly. Then, reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally. Keep an eye on it – you’re looking for the water to become clear and those lovely tofu curds to become visible.
  3. Strain it off: Line a bowl with cheesecloth. Pour the simmered mixture through the cheesecloth, allowing the liquid (hemp milk) to drain into the bowl. You can use this hemp milk in smoothies or soups!
  4. Press it down: Place the curdled mixture in your tofu press (or that stack of books) and press for at least 2 hours. The longer you press it, the firmer your tofu will be.

And there you have it! Homemade hemp seed tofu. We use it in, salads, stir – fries or wherever your culinary heart desires.
